Strategy:
Net Records is the long tail record label. The place for the UK's 50,000 unsigned bands to congregate, sell their music and wares, reach out to fans and find the information and services they require. Our focus is not on promoting bands to the record labels, but on being an alternative to the record labels who have so far singularly failed to understand the changing nature of media distribution.
Following the first beta phase, Net Records is currently undergoing extensive redevelopment of the back-end and some aspects of the user experience to address feedback. We expect to relaunch by autumn 2008.
We have a four phase business and development plan (we are currently in phase one) that sees the revenue streams shift as new services and audiences come on stream. Streams include advertising, download revenue share, premium subscriptions, reseller agreements and white labelling of core services.
Financial Performance:
Net Records has been self-funded to date with no plans to secure external investment in the short or medium terms. We have a business model that we believe in and plan to fund future stages of development from cash flow.
Current Performance:
The first beta trial has been completed with a great public response, despite some serious flaws in the initial site. Those flaws are currently being addressed in advance of a relaunch. Note that the initial development was offshored to India with mixed results. The subsequent refinements have been infinitely more complicated because the initial development was not completed to 'best practice' standards. A lesson for all startups looking to outsource.
Net Records is the number one social networking site on the web for musicians, songwriters and performers. An interactive community tailored towards unsigned musical talent. If you love playing or listening to new music then Net Records has a wealth
of resources to meet your musical needs.
Artists can upload their music and videos to their very own space on the web. Artists will also have access to a fully editable profile which includes band description, history, gigs, links and photos.
Music fans can search for the latest sensation and download tracks and videos at their leisure. They can make bands or other listeners their 'friends' and start their own little music community based around their own specific musical tastes. Don't be fooled
by other social networking sites that cater for musicians and music fans - this is a dedicated resource run by people who care about music.
Funding:
Self funded to date with no plans to seek external investment.
